Validation of the Chinese Version of the Personal Resource Questionnaire 85 (PRQ85) for the Parents of Children with Cancer

碩士 === 國立陽明大學 === 社區護理研究所 === 89 === The purpose of this research is to test the reliability and validity of the Chinese version of the Personal Resource Questionnaire 85(PRQ85) for the parents of children with cancer. There were four steps in the preliminary work. The first step was the translation and the back translation of the PRQ85. The second step asked seven experts from different fields for expert validity and received satisfactory content validity index of 0.88~1. The third step involved five parents of cancer children to examine the Chinese version of PRQ85 for face validity. The last step requested nineteen parents of cancer children completing the pilot test and received satisfactory Cronbach’s a value of 0.83. This research uses purposive sampling, including 200 parents of cancer children from 4 medical centers in the northern and central Taiwan. For the item-total correlation,study results show that the correlation coefficients of two items were below 0.3; therefore, these two were removed. In addition, two other items were removed because the facotr loading values of two items were below 0.3 and acrossed two factors in the first factor analysis test. During the second factor analysis test, four components were extraced from the remaining 21 questions. Four components labeled nurturance, self worth, intimacy and assistance explained 49.01% of the total variance and the item distribution of each component was inconsistent with the original scale. The relationship of each item and the total score was evaluted by item analysis and the correlation coefficient was above 0.6. Divergent Validity shows that the correlation coefficient between PRQ85 and Parental Perception of Uncertainty Scale was -0.39. For the reliability,the Cronbach’s alpha of the PRQ85 was 0.85 which suggests the PRQ85 has satisfactory internal consistency. Although there exists discrepancy between the results of this study and original scale, the study findings provide that the evidence of validity and reliability of the modified Chinese PRQ85 and support the use of this instrument with Taiwanese parents with cancer children. Furthermore, nurses can use the PRQ85 to assess the needs of social support of parents with cancer children,then provide specific nursing intervention to meet with their needs.
