However, from the viewpoint of its invention and application for human civilization, letterprint is still an indelible part in this art. In fact, printing art can proceed with duplication which enable us to improve the progress of hand transcription and speed the duplication. It not only develops the productivity, but also reduces the error rates made by hand transcription. This study focus on the tracing and investigation of type producing for phototype print processing. The following outcomes are acquired in accordance with the record of current accomplished stages. 1.Letter design forms by modifying penmanship of ancient calligrapher which is the written base of graphic design for Roman type. And, in order to meet the producing procedures of cut matrix and save time, Sung Type is therefore generated. Typeface also forms by adopting penmanship of these letters. 2.Photo Zincography Producing - former of cut type matrix - is to take zinc photogravure of cut probe misdirected for sample. During our visits, we find there is difference in material of photogravure producing between Taichung and Wanhua、Chungli. The main factor of difference is that people want to extend the time of photogravure operation. 3.During producing, appearance of type matrix is divided into 4 kinds of letters - single, connected, collected and movable. And the method of producing includes electro-plating、cutting and pressing. The reason of exploiting type matrix is for saving materials, minimizing space and reducing cost. 4.Typecasting covers hand clip、hand swinging caster and automatic caster, total in three kinds. Hand clip acts as an emergency casting tool. The related records of this clipping caster and casting operation manner have not been found in the literatures. 5.Pickup type-setting and lettertprint are individually operated, and can be revised and repeated at any time. Therefore, letter pickup and restoration become very significant in subsequent works. The following conclusions are made while utilizing type-setting： (1) Each letter must be independent. (2) It can not overlap letters in typeface setting. (3) It can not intersect in graphic setting. (4) It requires to be filled with lead ingot in blank space of typeface. (5) It causes space management, cost and weight problem
