Summary:碩士 === 元智大學 === 管理研究所 === 89 === In planning of its business future, the firm not only should take into account of its external factors, but also needs to develop a coherent corporate strategy so that its resources can be appropriately used in accordance with its future direction in order to maintain its competitive advantages. The goal of this research has three folds. First, it attempted to examine what planning and evaluation process the firm uses in face of diversifying opportunities? Second, it intended to identify what activities the firm may involve to monitor and support the invested firms? Third, it is prepared to discover what factors that may influence the performance of the invested firms? By adopting a case study approach, the current research found that both environmental factors and the attributes of individual investments did not significantly relate to the business performance of the invested firms. In contrast, such analytical perspectives as corporate portfolio, the five-force analysis, corporate financial structure and core competencies showed a better capability to predict the performance of the invested firms. The findings can be useful in terms of strategic and competitive analysis for people who are responsible for investment decisions.
