The objectives are to understand the changes in nursing quality for the years 1991, 1994 and 1997; to compare the differences in nursing quality among accredited hospitals of different levels and subjective evaluate the effect of hospital accreditation on the quality of nursing care.. This study adopts a cross-sectional study design. The study population is the hospitals that had been in the hospital accreditation of National Department of Health (DOH) in 1991, 1994 and 1997. There are 17 nursing quality indicators chosen by the “Delphi technique” including 9 structure indicators, 7 process indicators and 1 outcome indicator. T- test, one-way analysis of variance and chi-square are used to test the hypotheses. “The effect of hospital accreditation on quality of nursing care and management system “ questionnaire is used to survey the opinion of nursing directors. The results reveal that the quality of nursing care had improved over time. There are significant differences in the year 1991 and 1994, 1991 and 1997. There are significant differences in medical centers and regional hospitals, regional hospitals and district hospitals. There is 90.2% of nursing directors thought that hospital accreditation is helpful to improve the quality of nursing care. In summary, hospital accreditation did improve the quality of nursing care. Medical centers should be the benchmark of all hospitals. Since there is no sufficient information on each hospital, this study suggests the hospital accreditation needs to build a data bank to store the information for related study. Key words: Hospital accreditation, quality of nursing care, structure quality, process quality and outcome quality. Mau, Lih-Wen 毛莉雯 2002 學位論文 ; thesis 95 zh-TW
