The presence of Hp is also strongly associated with delayed healing of ulcer and ulcer recurrence. Eradication of Hp makes the dream of cured peptic ulcer diseases come true. However, the pathogenesis of Hp-associated diseases are not clear .In one recent study, it demonstrated that Hp could induce gastric adenocarcinoma (GCA) in Mongolian gerbil. There is marked effect of capsaicin in cardiovascular, respiratory, skin and gastrointestinal tract. In the animal model of gastric damages induced by ethanol and indomethacin, capsaicin will prevent mouse from gastric ulcer. They even speculated that the reason of decreasing rate of peptic ulcer and gastric cancer in patients consuming with large amount of chili in diet may be due to inhibit effect of capsaicin for Hp. In 1996, Jones reported one study that capsaicin can inhibit Hp growth. There are two parts in our research: 1. In vitro study: we test the inhibitory effect of different Hp colonies by use of different concentrations of capsaicin. 2. In vivo studies: A. we divided the gerbils into two groups, and then induce gastric mucosal injury by one of two drugs (ethanol or ketoprofen). And we use capsaicin or cimetidine as treatment agents in both two groups. Then we observe the pathologic changes of gastric mucosa. B. The gerbil-infected model is performed as following: we use duodenal ulcer patients’ Hp colony (cagA+/vac A+) and fed gerbils with 0.5ml(about 109 CFU/ml, by intragastric method) for two times in the interval of 2 days. The results are: 1.capsaicin can inhibit Hp growth, but there are different reactions in different colonies. 2. According to the animal model of our research, the success rate of Hp infection is about 89.7%. And we observe the obvious mucosa changes after long-term infection of Hp. 3. We find that capsaicin shows the dual action in gerbils. It has the protective effect when the dose is less than 5 ug/kg. In the contrast, it aggravates the damages induced by drugs when its dose is more than 10 ug/kg.
