Firstly the models for analyzing the kinematics, kinetostatics and dynamics of the multi-layer roller drives are developed. Secondly, these models are integrated with those of the two-speed automatic transmission and the dc motor to simulate and analyze the characteristics of the transmission. For the analysis of the roller drive, firstly, the concept of equivalent four-bar linkage is applied to develop the model of kinematic analysis; secondly, d`Alembert theorem is used to build the model of kinetostatic analysis with considering the friction. Another kinetostatic analysis considering multi-roller contact is proposed. Furthermore a better model for evaluating the efficiency of the drives with variable kinetic energy is also proposed. Thirdly, the equations of motion of the drive and the dc motor are integrated for the dynamic analysis. Examples are included to demonstrate the usage and the results of using the proposed models. In addition, the equations of motion of the roller drive, the two-speed automatic transmission, and the dc motor are integrated to simulate the characteristics of an electrical motorcycle with this transmission. An example is included to show the driving characteristics of the motorcycle under a combination of various loads. The models developed and the results of this study are believed to be helpful for the research and development of the speed reducers and transmissions.
