Abstract
The purpose of the study was to explore the relationship between adolescents’ self-esteem, parent-child relationship, sexual attitude and sexual behavior. This study is a survey research. 834 male and female students from six senior high schools and four senior vocational schools in Taipei City were sampled in this study. The measurement applied in this study included Adolescent Self-esteem Inventory, Parent-child Relationship Inventory and Sexual Education Questionnaire. The obtained data was analyzed by descriptive statistics, independent-samples t test, Pearson production-moment correlation and stepwise multiple regression. The main findings were as follows:
1. The presexual behavior of the senior high school and senior vocational school students in Taipei City was clearly distinct due to different schools, but dependent on gender and grades. The deep sexual behavior of the senior high school and senior vocational school students in Taipei City was clearly distinct due to different schools and grades, but dependent on gender. The sexual attitude of the senior high school and senior vocational school students in Taipei City was clearly distinct due to gender and different schools, but dependent on different grades.
2. The self-esteem from different living areas of the senior high school and senior vocational school students in Taipei City was clearly distinct due to gender and different schools, but dependent on different grades.
3. The different contents of self-esteem of the senior high school and senior vocational school students in Taipei City was clearly distinct due to different schools, but dependent on gender and different grades.
4. The father-child relationship of the senior high school and senior vocational school students in Taipei City was clearly distinct due to different grades and schools, but dependent on gender.
5. The mother-child relationship of the senior high school and senior vocational school students in Taipei City was clearly distinct due to gender different schools and grades.
6. Sexual attitude, social self-esteem, physical self-esteem and competency of the samplers were positively correlated with their presexual behavior.
7. Sexual attitude, family self-esteem, father —child independence, father-child mutual trust, father-child feeling communication, mother-child independence, mother-child mutual trust, and mother-child feeling communication of the samplers were negatively correlated with their presexual behavior.
8. Sexual attitude and social self-esteem of the samplers were negatively correlated with their deep sexual behavior.
9. Sexual attitude, family self-esteem, father —child independence, father-child mutual trust, father-child feeling communication, mother-child mutual trust, and mother-child feeling communication of the samplers were negatively correlated with their deep sexual behavior.
10. Sexual attitude, social self-esteem, academic self-esteem, family self-esteem, mother-child feeling communication, father-child independence, and father-child friendly interaction could forecast presexual behavior of 23.1%. Sexual attitude is the most factor in forecasting sexual behavior.
11. Sexual attitude, social self-esteem, academic self-esteem, father-child independence, father-child mutual trust and mother-child friendly interaction could forecast sexual behavior of 17.9%.
Implications of these results were discussed and suggestions for realistic purposes and future research were also given.
