ABSTRACT
School effectiveness research has emerged from virtual total obscurity to a now central position in the educational discourse that is taking place within many counties. The school effectiveness movement had some sensible things to say about the practical ways in which schools could work to improve the quality of education for all their students.
We first focused on exploring the principals’ different satisfaction level of school effectiveness, and the characteristics of effective elementary schools, then, to find out the general factors which are believed to be associated with effective schools, finally, to compare the statistic results with the interview results.
We concluded the results of the study as follow:
1. The principal’s sex role had no correlation with the school effectiveness satisfaction level.
2. Schools in urban area had better student performance level.
3. The principals with higher education were less satisfied with teachers’ teaching performance.
4. The older principals were more satisfied with school environment.
5. The experienced principals were more satisfied with school environment and the
young principals were more satisfied with school vision.
According to the results and discussions, this study will give practical suggestions to the educational administrations and the elementary school principals, and give theoretical suggestions to the follow-up study.
