Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立屏東師範學院 === 視覺藝術教育研究所 === 90 === A Comparative Study on the Art of Yang Ying-Feng and Ju Ming In this thesis, I make a comparison between Yang Ying-Feng(Yuyu Yang) and Ju Ming. This research is based on the following four aspects. Aspect 1. An introduction to Yang''''s life, career, artistic ideals, sculpturing style, and other people''''s evaluations on his works. Aspect 2. An introduction to Ju''''s life, career, artistic ideals, sculpturing style, and other people''''s evaluations on his works. Aspect 3. Comparisons between their (A) processes of development, (B) creative concepts, (C) art works, and (D) achievements and contributions. Aspect 4. By the comparison between their differences and similarities, searching for what illuminations they do for the Taiwan''''s Sculpturing Art. This research is based on the Comparative Approach. I got illuminated when organizing and dealing with the descriptions, explanations, juxtaposition and comparisons about them. The following is further information about my thesis. Yuyu Yang was born in 1926 at Yilan, Taiwan, and passed away at the Far Yuan Temple located at Shin Zhu, Taiwan in 1997. Ju Ming, whose birth name was Ju Chuan-Tai, was born in 1938 at Tong Xio, Miaoli, and still lives healthily in Taiwan. Yuyu Yang was Ju Ming’s teacher. Both of them are good at sculpture art. In this thesis, I search for the differences and similarities among their developing progresses in art, artistic ideals, art works, and achievements and contributions in art. 1. Their developing progresses in art. (i) Similarities: Both of them were born in the ages when Taiwan was governed by Japan. Their progresses of artistic creation can be divided into three stages— (1) brewing and discovery (2) stylish forming (3) independent creation. (ii) Differences: Yuyu Yang had entered the universities in Taiwan, Japan, mainland China and Italy. However, Ju Ming was apprenticed to Mr. Chin-chuan Lee, a prestigious artist, after his regular primary school education. Ju kept on learning by being a student of Yuyu Yang later. Yuyu Yang was affected by the western Abstract Art , but Ju Ming by American Pop Art. Yuyu Yang’s sculpture came from painting; however, Ju Ming’s is from sculpture directly. 2. Their artistic ideals A. Concepts about artistic education (i) Similarities: Both them believe in “the purpose of art education” is to cultivate students “good tempers”. (ii) Differences: Yuyu Yang promoted “ using culture to found our country”, but Ju Ming focused on the cultivation of elites. B. Concepts on Sculpturing (i) Similarities: Both of them are affected by Buddhism, Confucianism, and Taoism etc . (ii) Differences: Yuyu Yuan believed in “ We make our environment which.inturn.remakes us” However, Ju Ming believes in “art as cultivation.” 3. The differences between their art works Dragons, phoenixes, the sun, the moon, the earth, even the whole universe are all Yuyu Yuan’s creative materials. Most of all, the final abstract of his works was “spirit”, which comes from reality, transformation, and abstraction. “ Eastern concept presented in western style” is one of his famous features. “ Tradition, Countryside, Tai Chi, and the Living World” are Ju Ming’s famous art series. His sculptures of hung Oriental human figures just echo the Western Human Body’s Sculpture Art. 4.Their contributions and achievements A. Art creation (i) Similarities: Both of them are good at “lifescape sculpture .” They were rewarded the Prize of Golden Fingers, as one of the Taiwan’s Ten Outstanding Youths. (ii) Differences: Yuyu Yuan was the first artist using the stainless steel and the laser beams as the sculpturing media. He had been rewarded the Prize of World Peace in Art. Ju Ming initiated the method of “form rubber cast bronze”, and was rewarded the 14th Creative Prize of Tokyo. B. Art Education (i) Similarities: Both of them have their own studios, painting clubs, galleries, art museums, and foundations. What’s more, both they are devoted themselves to promoting arts. (ii) Difference: Yuyu Yuan carried out his plan for art education. Ju Ming pays more attention to the cultivation of elites. With the Comparative Approach, I found I could be more objective and could eliminate egoism when doing the research. “Description”, I think, is not only a process of seeking references, but also a way of getting illuminations. Through the research, I’ve experienced some principles and constructive theories of Sculpture Creation and Art Education. It’s really an interesting and meaningful journey.
