Summary:碩士 === 國立臺南大學 === 國民教育研究所 === 90 === The purpose of this study was to realize the current English teaching situation of elementary schools, to investigate the opinions of teachers, and eventually to raise suggestions for the reference of educational administrative organizations, elementary schools, and English teachers instruction. This study adopted questionnaire survey. The data collection and analysis were based on the two questionnaires “Questionnaire of the Current English Teaching Situation in Elementary Schools” and “Questionnaire of the Opinions toward the Current English Teaching Situation in Elementary Schools”. The research subjects consisted of 200 school administrators and 874 teachers in the elementary schools from seven counties in south Taiwan. This study reclaimed 769 questionnaires and there are 741 effective ones. The usable percentage was 68.9%. The statistical techniques were descriptive statistics and Chi-square. The conclusions of this study were depicted into three parts: 1. the current English teaching situation of elementary schools 2. the opinions of teachers in the elementary schools toward the current English teaching situation 3. the issues of the teachers, curriculum, teaching, and resources in the current English teaching situation in the elementary schools Based on the conclusions, the suggestions are raised including four aspects: educational administrative organizations, school administration, English teacher instruction, and future research.
