The purposes of the present study were to design an Internet learning environment where learners create studying notes collaboratively, and to evaluate users’ attitudes toward the environment. In particular, the environment, or system, designed incorporated effective study procedure by asking the members of a studying group to study learning materials according to the following procedure: (1) all the members of a group read the material and raise questions to reflect the important information the materials conveyed, (2) the members discuss how to divide the learning materials into equal shares, (3) a member reads and takes notes the share of material assigned to him/her and provides the notes for the other members to read and comment, and (4) a member revises the notes s/he took in consideration of the other members’ comments, and finally the note will combine the notes the other people took to form an integrated note.
To evaluate users’ attitude toward the note-taking environment designed in the research, 25 undergraduate and 25 graduate students were used as subjects in the present research. After thorough illustration how the system operates, the subjects’ attitudes to the system were collected using a questionnaire. The major findings are as following: (a) 82% of the subjects agreed that the system could promote users’ learning efforts. (b). 84% of the subjects agreed that the system could promote the interactions among the users, however only 46% of the subjects thought that the system would save their learning time. (c) 82% of the subjects indicated that they are willing to use the system in the future.
