Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine and discuss three problems in the procedures of respondent selection within household using suffix of phone numbers. First, can the randomness of suffix phone number selection using phone book sampling method pass the statistical evaluation? After practical sampling , it is proven that the randomness of this sampling method does pass the K-S evaluation of statistical method. Second , to reach higher degree representative of the sampling population,it is uaually necessary to adjust the suffix of phone numbers selected for phone interview. In this study, I offer a method of making adjusting the suffix of phone numbers which should be a better method, both in theory and in practical world. Finally, in this study, I will introduce special factors (e.g. population age information) in the population of Taiwan area to develop a simpler but still efficient method of respondent selection in conducting surveys.
