The needs are responded by the supply of grant quantity of space and high quality service. What the local government officials and hot-spring bath industry managers most concern about is the consumption behavior in multiple choice sets of hot-spring recreation. That is, where do the tourists choose to go and how they make the decision? In view of the previous studies of hot-spring recreation, most of the authors dealt with only one destination. In this study, a comparative research by cross destinations in Taipei metropolitan is investigated. Theoretically, this research has applied discrete choice analysis for the first time been to hot-spring recreation study. Ben-Akiva’s(1985) multidimensional choice nested logit model was used to construct the tourist choice model of Taipei metropolitan hot-spring recreation areas. Two dimensions are considered in the model, one is the choice of recreation areas and the other is the choice of hot-spring spaces. The result shows that the tourists choose recreation destination first and then choose the hot spring bath site. The nested structure of areas are separated into three nests and the choice of space presents multinomial way. Finally, the major findings in this research are summerized as follows: (1) The decision model of hot-spring recreation destination is proved as a nested structure. (2) It is evident that the competitive advantage of areas relies a lot on the local character and hot-spring bath managers should shape the niche through effective marketing. Recently, hot-spring recreation activities have become an important option for recreation in Taipei metropolitan.
