The purpose of this paper is to estimate the maximum tension of the mooring line of the three wire spar buoy in different wave conditions, so that the safety of the floating breakwater composed of a semi-closed pipe, which is designed by Liang(2000), can be guaranteed.
This study is divided into two parts. One is the numerical calculation assuming that the system is in a static state in wave. Then using the Morison equation and static force equilibrium the value of tension is obtained. The other is the hydraulic experiment by using a strain gage to measure the variation of tension of the mooring lines and compare with the result of the numerical calculation. According to the comparisons, the numerical model can really estimate the maximum value and the variation of mooring line tension in waves.
