Summary: | 碩士 === 國立臺灣大學 === 商學研究所 === 90 === The practice of slotting allowances has been common in the retail grocery industry recently. While most academic works has considered of marketing issues, legal analyses and public policies, this research explores slotting allowances from the aspect of supply chain management.
This thesis constructs a model for analyzing the impact of slotting allowances on channel coordination in a system consisting of a supplier and two competing retailers. Fixed and variable slotting fees with or without price discount promotion are considered as channel coordination mechanism. After the models are developed, five performance measures: wholesale prices, retail prices, demands, retailers’ profits, and supplier’s profit are compared with the benchmarking model.
Some important managerial insights are obtained through the comparisons. First, fixed and variable slotting fees affect the five performance measures differently. Second, slotting allowances might not be beneficial to market efficiency, especially the variable ones. Third, charging slotting allowances does not always benefit retailers. Finally, charging slotting allowances with price discount promotion will have no impact on the five performance measures.
