Chen built a "Taiwanese Butterfly Query System" which is a CBIR(Content-Based Image Retrieval) system based on the QBF(Query By Features) and QBE(Query By Examples) model. The system characterizes butterflies into three main dimensions - color, shape, and texture. In this thesis, the topic is focused on the texture dimension. Since Chen made the proximity sequences of 17 texture features by hand, our goal is to automate the process. Two methods by Gabor functions, Manjunath''s and the MPEG-7 texture descriptor, are discussed and compared.
