Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立臺灣大學 === 資訊管理研究所 === 90 === The development of wireless network technologies and the popularization of portable devices bring much convenience in human life. Location-Based Services, which makes people easily get useful information in a specific location, is one of such an important application, and we believe that the technology will soon emerge to the world. So the focus of the thesis is to design and implement a location-based services architecture called Ubiquitous Ad Hoc Location-Based Services. In contrast to current location-based services that are often based on positioning technologies, our architecture uses Wireless LANs and Mobile Ad Hoc Networks as the fundamental technologies. More precisely, local area servers are setup in wireless LANs. A person carrying a portable device (e.g., PDAs) can get location-based services if he walks into the service range of a server. Moreover, it can still get services through mobile ad hoc networks while he is walking out of the range. Our implementation uses IEEE 802.11b as the communication standard. We also develop some software applications for the services on PDAs.
