| Summary: | 碩士 === 東海大學 === 工業設計學系 === 90 === The case study based on present background and literature research operates an explorative subject: how designers generate design concepts by recalling dreams. The “Circle of Constructivist Inquiry” paradigm for qualitative research is the framework of the study. A three-stage research design includes a pre-experiment, an experiment with over-predream suggestion and an experiment of dream-interpretation. The data of pre-experiment is gathered by means of retrospection. The experiment with over-predream suggestion and the experiment of dream-interpretation are main experiments. The course of main experiments is modified according to the pre-experiment.
The purpose of the “experiment with over-predream suggestion” is to probe if executing over-predream suggestion related to design task can make the designer’s inspiration from dream work out helpfully; to realize the way of recalling dream to generate design concept; and to compare general deign method with dream-recalling design method. The “experiment of dream-interpretation” is in order to investigate design process that the designer transforms the interpretative meaning of dream into concrete design; and to analyze the design language and psychological function of design consequences.
The data of main experiment is gathered by think-aloud and interview. The study method is protocol analysis with coding system established by the researcher. Eventually, the thesis focuses on the path of designers’ design thinking（mental model）and concludes with prominent phenomena and features of dream-recalling design method.
