Summary: | 碩士 === 東海大學 === 統計學系 === 90 === The Poisson distribution and the negative binomial distribution are two closely related distributions, both associated with the occurrences of〝rare events〞. Since they are of discrete nature, the confidence intervals for their parameters in the literature are often approximations. In this thesis, we construct〝exact〞optimum conditional confidence intervals for their parameters for each observed numbers of events. By〝optimum〞we mean that their widths are minimum among the intervals with the same confidence coefficient. The computational results are tabulated in Appendixes I and II at three confidence levels 90%, 95% and 99%.
