History has proved that breakthroughs in any given field would influence or inspire development in other fields. In today’s world, one of the success factors of emerging or survival companies is the integration of military management in business operations. Nowadays bookstores are filled with publications featuring application of military management in a corporate environment with few books dedicated to corporate management application in the military. This phenomenon does not imply that military management can only serve as a reference for others without learning from other fields. Although a military unit is not a profit generating business, the underlying principle of its organization and functions are the same as any other unit dedicated to certain purposes. In terms of military training, the military can be a unique industry if developing excellent soldiers is viewed as making “money” and otherwise running a “deficit”. The means to achieve the purpose of making money instead of running a deficit must be correct and proper management strategies. US Army had conducted internal reforms since losing the War at Vietnam. After ten years, the successful results were demonstrated in the Gulf War. US Army is now involved in the digital revolution immediately after the end of the Gulf War. The success story derives from introduction of business management concepts. Mr. Perry, former US Secretary of Defense, once said that the basis of US military revolution is essentially introducing business management models. Therefore, we have every reason to believe that it is worthwhile studying military reform based on business management concepts. At least, this is an option with great possibilities of success. This paper takes reference from the success story of US Army to study the following two points. First, the paper tries to analyze the trends of future types of war from a macro viewpoint and to compare the development of military theories and organizations of major countries in response to the new military revolution in order to find out commonalities of structure and functions between military and business organizations. Second, the paper applies business management concepts to study the reform of US Army over the past decade. It also studies the changes of training concepts and methods as well as the establishment of a training system based on the components of an armed force of the future. Since the development of a digital military force is still in its experiment stage among advanced countries including the US, a digital force is viewed as an armed force of the future. Therefore, the training of a digital force is equal to the military training of the future. Based on the above, the focus of this study is to establish a theory with emphasis on value judgment, while a conclusion of reality is not the purpose of this paper.
