The impairment of NO release from endothelial cells after treatment with oxidized low density lipoprotein (oxLDL) has been intensively studied. However, the effect of oxLDL on the NO uptake of VSMC remains unclear. In this study, first, the competition experiment of NO between oxyhemoglobin (oxyHb) and VSMC was developed to calculate the relative rate of NO into VSMC. Second, the effects of low density lipoprotein (LDL) and oxLDL on the NO uptake by VSMC was investigated. The result indicated that hydrogen peroxide was able to increase the NO uptake by VSMC.
