Summary:碩士 === 國立中正大學 === 犯罪防治研究所 === 91 === Abstract The purpose of this thesis was to evaluate the effects of writing treatment on the inmates in the prison facility. This study was divided into two major parts: One indicates the curriculum of the writing treatment and the teaching philosophy of the instructor; the other one investigates the effects of writing treatment for the inmates. Qualitative method which includes self-report and self-statement from the writing class tutors and those inmates who participated the writing treatment was used in this study, Three writing tutors and sixteen inmates enrolled for the writing treatment sessions were sampled to join in this study. With the self-report of the enrolled inmates, the major reasons for attending the treatment sessions are: Increasing writing skills, associating with more people, killing monotonous imprisonment time, personal interest, increasing knowledge, and rebuilding character. The main findings of this study can be summaried as the followings: 1) writing can improve inmates’ writing skills and writing capacities, especially in increasing the skills in utilizing etymology and expanding the thinking capacity. 2) writing can help the inmate become a good citizen who are more responsible in his behavior, and have more positive thinking about himself and others, and are more considerable. 3) writing can improve the inmates to have better adjustment in prison, more stable emotion, and enhance their self-esteem.
