碩士 === 國立中正大學 === 資訊工程研究所 === 91 === The explosive growth of email popularity has created lots of email accounts or users which not only emerge the need of mailing list management systems but also foster new forms of community organization. To handle more and more email accounts and users with various requirements, we design a sophisticated Mailing List Management System called BIAN, Buddy In mAiling Network. A user account in BIAN is actually an alias of the other email account the user owns. A user can register to become a BIAN member, send emails through BIAN mailing lists, join mailing lists, construct personal mailing network, invite other members, and create mailing lists through web browser interfaces. Not only do the user accounts form diRerent mailing lists, a mailing list can also include other ones. Lists with similar features form a group and the group itself is a mailing list as well. These groups, lists, and accounts form a mailing network and is displayed through a friendly web-based tree interface. The emails delivered through the mailing lists can be prioritized so that express emails can be delivered first. Moreover, bulk emails are delivered in a controlled manner so that the overall system performance is not degraded significantly. The emails can also be posted on the system and users can choose whether to download and read some emails to save network bandwidth and avoid email bombing or spamming.
