The TFT-LCD industry has developed only 20 years, but had experienced three complete supply and demand adjustment circulations, the overall industry developed maturely in a shorttime, and provides rich research data. This research observes TFT-LCD industries at Taiwan, Japanese, and Korean from last stages of 1980 ages to the initial period of 2003 ages. The coevolution process observered from two level – the evolution mechanism in the industrial level, and the niche change in the firm level. This research uses systems science viewpoint to establish subsystems on behalf of the environment resources. The coupling of subsystems explains the evolution mechanism of Niche Forming and Resource Partitioning. The TFT-LCD industry development could be devided into four stages: Quasi-Equilibrium state from last period of 1980 ages to 1993, Near-Equilibrium state from 1994 to 1996, Non-Equilibrium state from 1997 to 1999,and Near-Equilibrium state from 2000 to initial period of 2003 ages. Two kind of evolution mechanisms appeared in turn, Resources Partitioning mechnisam was replaced by Niche Forming mechnisam in the first time environment change, and then Resources Partitioning mechnisam dominated the industrial evolution in the second time environment change. From the obeservation of industrial level and the firm level, this research finds that Resourse Partitioning mechanism replaced by Nich Forming mechanism could be corrosponded with generalists form replaced by specialists form. In the evolution mechanism change process, the new specialists linked the subsystems by different ways to enter the market. The case of Taiwan TFT-LCD panel manufactures tell the truth that firms are not just manipultated by environment, firms have ability to affect the environment to shape a fitting living environment for themself.
