Description
Summary:碩士 === 中原大學 === 室內設計研究所 === 91 === The Dancing Space - Spatial Expression of Contemporary Theatrical Dance in Taiwan Abstract The unique ambiance of the theatre is an overall sensory experience constituted by visual, audio perceptions and emotions that are collectively created by the choreographer, dancers, stage designer, lighting technician, all the performers and the audience among others. In the 1950s, several dancers trained in Japan and China first introduced the art of Theatrical Dance in Taiwan, and today it has evolved into diversified and international development. Over these years as performance art progressively extends to the streets, it can be observed that Taiwan’s dance and theatre communities are inadvertently synchronized in their concerns on the issue of ‘space’, initially from the framed stage to the black-box theatre, and therefore returned to our living space or nature environment. Focusing on the interactive-play between dance and space, the writer examines the performances of Taiwan Theatrical Dance from the perspective of space and proposes subjective research theory. First, through retrospective study, the history of Taiwan Theatrical Dance is recounted and distinguished into phases with the attempt to re-enact its history, gyrated on the unique quality of dance to space by thoughts, to construct relevant creative processes on space relations through dance and theatre related space theories and the transformation of Taiwan theatre. Then, cases of dance performance and space interactions are examined to locate those emphatic or suggestive of revolutionary space thinking. Bases of historiography, observation of phenomena, interviews with choreographers and designers concomitant with recalling events and relevant literature are applied to interpret individual creative cases’ space thinking, in order to examine the activity space of dance. This study proposes to outline the relationship between dance and space, address how Taiwan dance artists form the indigenous space aesthetics for the stage, and the site-specific characteristics and metaphysical manifestation in difference spaces. Based on the theorizing, the writer provides a link point, it is inferred that the characteristic of theatre lies in the space scenario created by the interaction between the performers and the theatre, while the occur of Theatrical Dance predominantly motivates and enhances the choreographer’s ability to integrate stage art. Moreover, the field of theatre physical constraint of it's “Genius Loci” is transcended by the illusion, spiritual and emotional intensity of dance that ultimately extend its cultural significance in historiography. Through studying such a phenomenon, the writer seeks to present wider space-reflection on Taiwan Theatrical Dance , indirect promoting the interactive coordination of dance and environment in reconstructing the urbanization of Taiwan local and culture.
