Three examples will be discussed and compared by using theoretical method and the method in practical business. In practical business, they do not draw the comparison between system head curves and pump performance curves; They often choose pump suppliers only by experience and business relationship; They decide pump suppliers in advance, and then buy pumps from pump catalogue given by the suppliers. Therefore, the chosen pumps will be different from those in theory. When choosing pumps, we suggest that (1) find a couple of suppliers and apply the theoretical methods to calculate the head loss and the actual head rise, and (2) compare with the system curves and pump performance curves given by the suppliers. In this way, an appropriate pump can be chosen to comply with the design need.
