A fault tolerant flight control system is a system that will operate and respond normally when one or more failures occur. We develop in this thesis an aircraft fault tolerant flight control system and program the fault-tolerance diagnosis algorithm in a real-time computer simulation platform. Our objective is to stabilize the unknown aircraft systems by the adaptive control law through an optimization procedure in which a cost function represents the derivation error between the actual outputs and the predicted model outputs obtained from a neural network. In the proposed aircraft flight control system, a fault tolerant mechanism activates when damages or a generic failure to the control surfaces occurred. The proposed approach is based on the implementation of a failure detection procedure, and the failure compensation mechanism is realized by introducing a neural net-based compensating law. Design of a real-time executive kernel based on RT-Linux operating system has also been conducted to realize the techniques proposed.
