Description
Summary:碩士 === 輔仁大學 === 德國語文學系 === 91 === In this thesis, eight short stories written by Ilse Aichinger are selected for interpretation and analysis. These eight short stories are published during 1948 to 1952 and develope accordingly a trilogy of life. The first episode includes three following short stories, i.e. Das Plakat, Spiegelgeschichte and Das Fenster-Theater, which describe the extreme situation of wandering through the border of life and death. The second episode includes two following short shories, i.e. Rede unter dem Galgen, Die geöffnete Order, which try to figur out the truth of life. The last episode includes three following short stories, i.e. Der Gefesselte, Seegeister and Wo ich wohne, which reveal the crisis of human existenz. Standing between the border of life and death helps human beings discover the truth of life, and therefore makes human limitations clear. The increasing threat of existenz brought by the limitations reflects the extreme border of life and death and explores the truth of life. Whereas the first episode is closely followed by the second episode that leads to the last episode, the last episode circles back to the first episode, which is followed by the second episode and so on. The more human beings experience bordering between life and death, the more helpless they find themselves in process of discovering their lives. The bigger the resignation is, the closer they reach the border. An obvious vicious circle occurs all the time and very likely mess up the life. Howerver, from the deepest core of despair opens up a whole new dimention of life, which we call hopes. An introduction of Ilse Aichinger’s life and works is shortly presented at the very beginning of this thesis, which underwent some literary research of related theses and used the method of werkimmanent in order to interpret the contents and analyse the form of the chosen eight short stories. The interpretation of contents goes into details as well as in general, while the analysis of the form is divided into the analysis of narrative perspectives and narrative structures, concerning the field of space and time respectively. Objective and subjetive narrative perspectives are provided to analyse the form in terms of exchanging each other with flexibility. An opportunity is applied by analysing the narrative time, motives and language to demostrate the narrative structures that constitute the eight short storie. Regarding both content and form, time and space, this thesis tries to find out the truth of life.
