It is widely applied not only to oriental and occidental cultural development in early stage, but also to modern art and design. However, in the domain of fashion design, it is mostly displayed by “repeats” on fabric, but seldom gets further by suing garment construction as the section. With different logical thinking, fashion designers in 21st century try to get rid of traditional concept, towards the thinking of garment construction, to deconstruct garment and then recombine again, which inspires the author to try to explore garment patterns as the section, to discuss the potential feasibility of applying “unit repetition” to fashion design. This research includes two parts, literature research and creation design. In terms of literature review, it first introduces the research background and motivation, purpose, range, methods and procedures. And then, it analyzes the relationship between unit repetition and the modeling aesthetics, and their application to design fields: including graphic design, 3D design, furniture design and fashion design, which builds the foundation for the creation concept of this research. With respect to creation design, first, it diffuses the creation concepts and then integrates them to plan and create the blueprint based on the design resources acquired in earlier stage and combining with CPS (creative problem-solving) design mode. Then, starting from the creation conception, it introduces how to carry out a creation trial of unit pattern and garment form and develop a series of experimental works by combining the features of material texture with pattern making and draping skills. Finally, it accurately records these creation procedures in details, and also analyzes and discusses the unique design thinking and restriction on creation of this study, to provide related researchers the possibility for extended development in the future. Taking both application and creative ideas into consideration, this exploration uses the repeated combination and application of unit pattern, makes a breakthrough of the traditional garment construction, to develop another feasibility for fashion design. At the same time, using CPS design mode, it clarifies and establish design concept step by step by means of multivariate testing methods to provide designers with references for target clarification and concept transformation in design, and also expand the thinking realm for design and creation.
