碩士 === 輔仁大學 === 翻譯學研究所 === 91 === This thesis aims to present the history of the translations, from Japanese poetic works into Chinese, done, published, and circulated in Taiwan during the period between 1949 to 2002. It depicts the predecessors’ endeavors and experiences in translations. With the view to elaborating the development of the translations in the half of the century, the thesis compiles “Indexes to Chinese Translations of Japanese Modern Poems” (over 2700 translations in total). In addition, from the angle of the source language and target language, the Chinese translations of important Japanese poets’ works, as well as the translators’ motivations, are addressed individually. The translation of Japanese modern poetry in Taiwan were originated in the early phase of the 1950’s. In the 1960’s, revival and emergence of the local poets influenced the translations to an outstanding degree; hence, translations maintained a steady growth in the cultural climate appealing for the local concern in the 1970’s. Since 1980’s, cultural interchanges between Taiwan and Japan had been increasing. What’s more, as more scholars returning from Japan, novices without Japanese background, and non-poet translators joined the line, translations of Japanese modern poetry also revealed a brand-new freshness.
