So called earthquake damage index, is to present the degree of damage according to a series of response parameters after an earthquake. By damage index, we can know the damage degree of this building preliminarily. Bozorgnia and Bertero define a improved damage index DI1&DI2 in 2001, conforming with the knowledge of scholars completely, and clear off those disadvantages in other damage indices. This paper introduces the improved damage index DI1&DI2 and compares with others. At last, it discusses the suitability of DI1&DI2 in Taiwan according to earthquake records and building code.
