Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立中興大學 === 生命科學系 === 91 === Thauling is located in the southeastern part of Gukeng Shiang in Yunlin County. It is steep terrain and the elevation ranges from 400 to 1,795 meter above sea level. Earthquake-caused landslide and landslide-dammed lake have occurred several times at Kulam Mountain. The recent collapse, occurred on September 21, 1999, blocked Chinshui Stream to form New Thauling Lake. The disturbances of earthquake and heavy rainfall result in diverse vegetation and terrain. The aim of this study is to investigate the plant resource of Thauling. Total study area is about 2,600 ha. Based on watershed, elevation and vegetation, we distinguished Thauling Area into Shbi Mountain, plantation forest, bamboo forest, Kulam Mountain collapse, Thauling Lake wetland, and set up 15 plots to analyze the vegetation structure. From the vascular plant inventory, there are 141 families, 407 genera, and 681 species in this area, including 77 endemic species. 19 rare species were found, in which 1 speices is endangered (E), 1 species is threatened (T), 10 species are rare (R), 3 species are questionable status (Q), and 4 species are non-endemic (NE). Based on matrix cluster analysis (MCA), Thauling area was classified into 13 vegetation types, which are Engelhardia roxburghiana—Rhododendron ellipticum type, Quercus longinux type, Persea konishii—Turpinia formosana type, Helicia rengetiensis—Engelhardia roxburghiana type, Engelhardia roxburghiana—Prunus phaeosticta type, Cryptomeria japonica forest, Cunninghamia lanceolata forest, Phyllostachys pubescens forest, Trema orientalis type, Bidens pilosa—Saccharum spontaneum type, Typha orientalis type, Typha angustifolia type, and Saccharum spontaneum type. Shbi Mountain exists diverse biological resources and 18 rare plant species and is suggested to set up protected area.
