So far, there are few papers concerning the MIN using virtual channel under bursty traffic[20][21]. Previous research[20] shows that there are up to 10% fraction of idling memory space within allocated virtual channel in the MIN. We find that this can be improved by adjusting the allocation policy of buffer memory. In this paper we proposed a simple, yet efficient virtual channel allocation approach which is capable of auto-adjusting. We call this Adaptive Virtual Channel Flow Control Allocation Policy or AVCFC. According to the traffic burst degree, this proposed approach can adjust the number and the depth of virtual channel in a buffer. This can always provide a better performance than those with fixed virtual channel size. We also develop a simulator to evaluate this approach. Simulation results are presented and they show that the performance of AVCFC under bursty traffic is better as we have expected.
