Therefore, we can easily escape from the fetters of wired communication and browse web pages, read and send e-mail everywhere. Mobile IP can expand the range of a single wireless LAN to a global wireless LAN. Users can use the same IP and roam among wireless LANs that support the protocol. Hand-off is the action taken when a mobile node leaves network A and enters network B. The movement detection algorithm used in mobile IP is Eager Cell Switching algorithm. The algorithm uses periodic advertisement to disseminate information for registration. The advertisement packets reduce the throughput. Time for movement detection is also lengthened. We set-up a wireless LAN environment, to experiment on a new movement detection algorithm, named Fast Hinted Cell Switching. The algorithm uses SSID in the beacon to carry information for registration. We also discuss how to use other fields in the beacon replaces SSID. Jan-Ray Liao 廖俊睿 2003 學位論文 ; thesis 74
