In this thesis, we tried to add Nb dopants in the PZT(52/48) ceramic systems to form soft PZT samples and investigated the piezoelectric and ferroelectric characteristics of the samples. The dielectric constant measured at 1KHz is about 1530 and the loss factor is about 2%. The maximum planar electromechanical coupling coefficient, Kp, is 0.6 and the remanent polarization is about 6μcl/cm2, the coercive field is about 12KV/cm. For cross analysis of piezoelectric and ferroelectric characteristics, we found there exist a positive linear relationship between electromechanical coupling coefficients, dielectric constant and the remanent polarization which showed that the Nb additives were helpful improving both piezoelectric and ferroelectric characteristics.
