The waste disposal and treatment industries of Taiwan are mostly transformed from the companies of the traditional hardware industries during the last two decades. In the past, the solid waste was disassembled, sieved and salvaged. However, the quality and quantity of the solid waste has varied due to the industrial development. The companies engaged in the solid waste management business are required to properly move and handle the waste. Transparent management and the RD ability to creat value from process reengineering is critical for the competition in this industry.
This thesis first presents a brief description of the production source of waste, and the related government policies and regulations. We then analyze logistics management strategies and business models of the private waste handling industry. A case study using SWOT and value-chain analysis approach is conducted. Four areas of critical success factors including operational mode, e-business implementation, management transparency, and globalization are identified. The competitive strategies explored from this research would also improve upgrading the quality of waste handling industry as a whole in Taiwan. While the existing literature on the subject of logistic strategies for waste management industry is scarce, we hope this research could provide a good reference for the future research.
