The purpose of this research aimed to evaluate those supervisors in charge of information department at elementary and junior high school for their capability of handling information-related issues and the relationship between their capability and background.
The researcher investigated the list of courses that information department supervisors most interested in participation for learning.
Conclusions were made based on the results of statistics and analysis from questionnaires which were filled out and responded by those information department supervisors involved in this evaluation activity. Following the conclusion, the suggestions were also prepared to be used for the reference of educational institutes, school principal as well as information department supervisors.
The researcher designed a questionnaire, entitled “Evaluation for the Capability of Computer Information Knowledge, for the Information Supervisors Working at Taichung County Elementary and Junior High Schools”. Questionnaire had five major elements as listed below:
l Capability of Fundamental computer skill,
l Computer hardware knowledge and capability of equipment maintenance,
l Proficiency on taking advantage of using the computer to education -related fields,
l Capability of establishment and managing on the aspect of network server, and
l Capability of web page creations and its maintaining management.
A total of 179 or 81.6% out of 213 questionnaires had been returned by respondents. Evaluation and analysis were then made by using variety of statistic methods such as means, standard deviation, percentile T-test and One-way ANOVA etc.
The findings are summarized as below:
1. It appears in general that the information supervisors were competent in integrated information field and met the required level.
2. Gender of information supervisor did not contribute to their capability of handling information-related issues.
3. Age contributed a significant difference in their capability of Network page designs and maintaining management.
4. Level of education contributed a difference significantly among information department supervisors in their capability in terms of fundamental computer skills, hardware and facility maintenance.
5. Number of years in the position of being an information department supervisor did contribute a quite difference in terms of their capabilities on information- related fields.
6. The courses of personal computer taken by information department supervisors did affect their capability on handling information-related issues.
7. The capability of information department supervisors in resolving information-related issues was affected resulting from the scope and locale of the school.
8. The location of school contributed insignificantly to information department supervisors in terms of their capability of handling information-related issues.
9. The top five courses that information department supervisors were most interested in participation for learning are:
- Linux network station establishment and maintenance.
- PHP programming design,
- Network Operation and its theories (TCP/IP and IPV6).
- My SGL database, and
- Flash motion Net page creation.
10. The top five courses that information department’s supervisors were reluctant to learn: are
- FrontPage net page creation,
- Personnel computer assembly,
- Principle and set-up of BIOS,
- Formation, duplication and retrieval of hard disk, and
- PhotoShop Image treatment
The suggestions made based on results of the research were provided in order to enhance the competence of information department supervisors working in Taichung County for their information-related knowledge and advance the accomplishment of the computerized objectives.
