Description
Summary:碩士 === 國防醫學院 === 公共衛生學研究所 === 91 === In Taiwan, adolescents smoking prevalence is about 12.6% in urban area and 7% in rural area. Smoking is a problem of the world, not only in Taiwan. It is important to find risk factors relating smoking behavior and quit smoking. This is a cross-sectional study. Overall 10,111 subjects had completed smoking related questionnaires. Questionnaires include some questions about smoking hazard knowledge, behavior and attitude for smoking behavior etc. Multiple linear regression and multiple logistic regression were used to assess risk factors related to attitude, behavior of smoking and quit smoking. The smoking prevalence rate in our study group is 36%. There were 38% young adults within the group of smoking gad ever quit smoking within one year before enter the army. The anti-smoking attitude of family members, colleagues and classmates has negative effect on smoking behavior of young adults. Admonition of smoking by parents (OR=1.51; 95%CI=1.19,1.91) and by friends (OR=1.37; 95%CI=1.12,1.68) had a positive effect on the cessation of smoking. The higher the score of smoking related attitude, the more chance to quit smoking (OR=1.04; 95%CI=1.02,1.06). When tobacco made the subjects feel discomfortable and their cessation may occur (OR=1.81; 95%CI=1.49,2.2). We found that the more objections to smoking and admonition to quit smoking by parents and friends, the higher possibility of quit smoking. And if the reasons of recent smoking behavior belong to environmental factors, they also have higher chance to quit smoking. In our study, we found something very interesting. The more smokers in neighborhoods, the less chance the recruits smoking. And we think this needs further study to identify the effects of neighborhoods in recruits’ smoking behavior. These findings suggest that smoking cessation courses may help young adults to quit smoking and the family or community effect may also be included in these courses. Key words: smoking, environmental factors, recruits, betel quid chewing, alcohol drinking.
