The situations that firms face in Taiwan are government investment policy uncertain, heighten environmentalism concept, production cost increase, to get land more difficulty, water, labor and power for production need in short supply. Organization theorist found that the viewpoint of biology is goodness for organization happening explanatory, especially when organizations place in a change and uncertain environment. According to this reason, we proposed this study based on organization ecology. The organizational ecology literature provides a significant body of research dealing with the issue of organization failure and organizational founding. Understanding organizational failure is interesting for various reasons: these include (1) insight may be gained about changes in the composition of particular industries, (2) expanding our understanding of firm factors which effect firm survival, and (3) its contribution to understanding the degree to which venture evolution and environmental change matter. For this purpose, we follow the context in the study of organization mortality and examine the effects of niche width, niche overlap density, age dependence and environmental variation on organizational mortality by Gomperts Model. This research uses data on the 1446 Chemical Material Manufacturers in Taiwan, starting with 1955 and ending with 2002. The result of this study are (1) niche width has a positive effect on failure harzards; (2) niche overlap density has a significant positive effect on mortality; (3) the pattern of age dependence of the industry show the liability of obsolescence (4) Uncertainty, Frequency of change and Amplitude of change in environment is positive effect on organization mortality.
