These policies foster the development in finance and internationalization turning the financial industry into a new page. In the past, the credit co-operatives acted as an important role among the grass- root finance communities. With the deregulation in the financial industry, they faced strong pressure from competitors. Their images were seriously damaged especially after several corrupt cases occurred since 1995, such as Chuan Hwa Forth Credit Co-operatives, Don Kung Credit Co-operatives etc. Consequently, there was slim room for their survival. After evaluating the management capabilities, the credit co-operatives decided to seek for the opportunities of merger, transformation, or being taken over. As a result, the number of credit co-operative was reduced to 37 in 2002 compared to 74 in 1995. The future market positioning and operations management of credit co-1995. The thesis is proposed to present an analysis of the factors and performances of bank transformation (merger) in Taiwan. This research examines the operation performance of transformation (merger) cases by community financial institutions in Taiwan in the 1997s. This study evaluates five categories with a tot of eight financial ratios as a measure index. The five categories are capital adequacy, earning capacity, efficiency, liquidity reserve, and growth prospect. Most acquiring banks do not improve operating performance following transformation (merger), especially in the earning capacity.
