碩士 === 國立高雄第一科技大學 === 運輸倉儲營運所 === 91 === ABSTRACT In the recent year, with the development of liner shipping market trending to economic scale, competition between the liner shipping market is getting cutthroat. In sequence of this trend, alliance and mergence are pushed through among the liner shipping companies. These cooperation between liners results in mega ocean carriers and the shipping market power is almost under their control. For this reason, the liner shipping organizations in Taiwan make the decision to maintain efficiency to take possession of the competitive advantages. Therefore, this study applies DEA (Data Envelopment Analysis) method to evaluate the efficiency of the liner shipping organizations in Taiwan and uses the CCR Efficiency Model, BCC Efficiency Model and Window Analysis in DEA to analyze the data from 1998 to 2001. This research includes financial and operational efficiency to measure the efficiency of liner shipping companies in Taiwan, and study how the efficiency changes through the four years. The result shows that in window analysis, most liner shipping organizations are growing in the financial efficiency. In the return to scale analysis, the study finds out the fact that most DMUs are the constant return to scale. It implies that the liner shipping organizations will encounter more fierce competition in this market and they must consider how to make more profit in the future. In the operational efficiency analysis, it shows that decline trend appears in most of the liner shipping companies through 1998 to 2001. In the return to scale analysis, the organizations reveal the increasing return to scale. The meaning is that their operational efficiency needs to be ameliorated. Finally, this study also discovers that the relationship between the financial efficiency and operational efficiency is not obvious in the Spearman rank-correlation analysis and the efficiency is affected by the data of inputs and outputs influence very much.
