In terms of esthetics viewpoint, it is the corresponding relationship between subjective consciousness and external world; while in artistic creation aspect, it implies the mutual relationship between self-consciousness and transmission media in which inner thinking will serve as the framework and reveal artistic production . The author uses the “faces” as symbols to express the concept of“concealment˙appearance”. Therefore, “face” become the carriers to project self spirit and the media to communicate with viewers. In order to find out deep connotation of “face” in artworks, the research scope of this essay includes the works that use “face” images as the medium in art. This study emphasis on the analysis of styles and ideas of various artworks in order to completely outline the concepts of symbol represented by “face” in different times and places. The contents of this essay are divided into the four aspects following: 1. The images and criticism of faces, focusing on the observation of cultural phenomenon, and could be divided into four kinds of form based on their functional attributes, namely belief, life, utility, and creation. Then, the messages conveyed are collected and sorted into the Eastern and Western cultural categories. 2.Based on The revealation and analysis of “face” in visual art,three categories about the nature and display methods of artworks : (1) plasticity mold, (2) imagery pattern, (3) form of expression. The author explores his creation ideas through the existence and expression techniques of artworks and further builds his own aesthetics. 3. Concealment & Appearance — the construction of creation theory, the author investigates the relationship between self - consciousness and artworks, then compares and adjusts personal creative works, and further reaches five artistic creation directions which include (1) unlimited mind sources, (2) raving transmigration, (3) consciousness outline, (4) silence permeation, and (5) appropriation and reappearance. The contents describe general images transpired from the creation system and the thought inspiration. 4. Personal works analysis. The analysis of creative works series using “face”as symbols. Works include “face”series, “construction”series,“appearance”series,“communication” series, and its expression forms are graphic drawing space assemblage, landscape assemblage, and images output.In addition,person’s inner thought, concerned topics, and vocabulary presented by artworks are named as the relationship. Therefore, each piece of “face” object indeed possesses unique feature. Regardless of ancient or modern Internet world,“face” image is one of the media to convey the creator’s ideas and inspire people’s thinking and bring out surprise and unexplainable charm,which attract the viewers appreciation continuously.
