Subjects were 298 pairs of single parent and adolescent from 15 senior high schools and vocational schools in Kaohsiung. The instruments included Chinese Codependency Assessment Tool and Index of Parenting. Data were collected by questionnaire survey and analyzed by T-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson product-moment correlation, multiple serial correlation, and multiple regression with statistics program. The main findings were: 1.There was a significant difference between single-parent father’s and single-parent mother’s other focus/self-neglect codependency. 2.Single-parent mother and single-parent father with various number of adolescent had no significant difference in codependency. 3.Single-parent father with different social status had significant difference in low self-worth and hiding self codependency. 4. Single-parent mother with different social status had significant difference in the other focus/self-neglect codependency. 5. Single parent’s adolescent with different sex had significant difference in the other focus/self-neglect codependency. 6. Single parent’s adolescent with different birth order did not have significant difference in codependency. 7. Single parent’s adolescent studying either at the senior high school or vocational school had significant different codependency on other focus/self-neglect, and low self-worth. 8. There was no correlation between single-parent mother’s and single-parent father’s parenting style and codependency. 9. There was a positive correlation between single-parent father’s parenting style and adolescents'''' codependency on other focus/self-neglect, family of origin issues, low self-worth, hiding self, and medical problems. 10. There was a positive correlation between single-parent mother’s parenting style and adolescents'''' codependency on other focus/self-neglect. 11. There was a positive correlation between single-parent father’s low self-worth codependency and adolescents'''' codependency on family of origin issues and low self-worth. There was also a positive correlation between single-parent father’s low self-worth and adolescents'''' medical problems codependency. The correlation between single-parent father’s and adolescents'''' medical problems codependency was positive, too. 12. There was a positive correlation between single-parent mother’s other focus/self- neglect codependency and adolescents'''' other focus/self-neglect and hiding self codependency. There was also a positive correlation between single-parent mother’s family of origin issues codependency and adolescents'''' family of origin issues, hiding self, medical problems codependency. The correlation between single-parent mothers’ hiding self codependency and adolescents'''' hiding self and medical problems codependency was positive, too. 13. Single-parent father’s codependency and parenting style could predict children’s low self-worth codependency up to 23.5 %. 14. Single-parent mother’s codependency and parenting style could predict children’s family of origin issues codependency up to 8%. The study results offer valuable references to school counselors and parenting educators as well as for future research.
