(2) To investigate the meaning and idea of teacher in-service education and professional growth. (3) To analyze the differences of background variables which can be used to explain the relationship between teacher in-service education. (4) To analyze teacher professional growth among different variables. (5) To examine correlations between teacher in-service education and professional growth in the elementry school of kaohsiung. (6) To find resolution for suggestion of teacher in-service education and professional growth. This study used the method of questionnaire survey to collect data.The asmple were teacher in the elementry school of kaohsiung.The valid samples consisted of 462 teachers, including 146 male and 316 female. The research instrument was “Professional Growth Questionnaire of Teacher”.The data was analyzed by SPSS 8.0 for Windows.The statistics methods adopted in the study were descriptive statistics,chi-square,T-test,ANOVA.The main result of this study were as follows: 1. The condition of teacher in-service education ranked the highest in “genenally in-service education”,the lowest in “course in-service education” among all teachers in the elementy school of kaohsiung. 2. Overall,there were significant differences in the elementry school teachers’ in-service education with differences of background. 3. The terachers’professional growth was differentiated by the background varied. 4. There were significant differences between teacher in-service education and professional growth.
