The subjects were selected from the fourth and sixth grade students in Kaohsiung elementary school. The total is 1044 students. Questionnaire of the cognition of singing includes four items, breath, phonic, resonance, and affective performance, and is analyzed with various methods of statistical analysis: description statistics, t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson product-moment correlation. The results were concluded as following: 1.The average of the whole cognition of singing of students exceeds the average of theory in singing. 2.The average of cognition in breath is the lowest, and the highest is in affective performance. 3. There are significant differences in students’ background variables and the degree of cognition. 4. The relationship between actual singing performance and the cognition of techniques of singing: there is no significant correlation in the fourth grade students. However, the sixth grade students revealed low degree correlation. 5.According to the research results, there are differences between the students’ background variables and cognitive characteristics. The study not only includes the research results and discussions, but also provides several suggestions for music teaching and future studies.
