In addition, the influence of social factors on recreational sport participation can be identified. Methods: A total of 541 people with physical disabilities in Physical Disability Association of Taichung County completed the survey. Impairment types included amputation, dysmelia, poliomyelitis, cerebral palsy, spinal cord injury and les autres. Personal, health and fitness, impairment and recreational sports participation data of people with physical disabilities were collected. Data were analyzed between gender, employment, marriage and type of impairment and recreational sports paticipation of the time, frequency, reasons, initial difficulties and sources of information were compared. Results: The study has found that 27% physical disabilities participated in recreational sports. Regarding the participation ratio between men and women the ratio was about 2.5:1. Money was the most important factor of the difficulty when people with physical disabilities initially participated in recreational sports. Sport coaches were the most important source for receiving information. In addition, employment and type of impairment had significant difference for people with physical disabilities in recreation sport participation. However, marriage did not have significant difference in recreational sport participation. Conclusion: People with physical disabilities should participate in recreational sports because physical impairment may limit their mobilities. Different social agents may cause differet socialization results in the socialization process. Thus, decision makes should not only encourage more people with physical disabilities to participate in recreational sports but also need some careful distingishments from different disabilities in order to promote recreational sports successfully.
