In this research, the action research was adopted and there were six pupils in the sample, who were three levels of language ability respectively. The teaching materials were designed according to the nature of language teaching. After the experimental teaching, there were positive effects as to the concept mapping strategy. There were especially high effects for pupils who were median and low level of language ability. Similarly, there was especially high effect for texts of expositions. Totally speaking, they were as follows: 1. As for pupils, concept mapping could prompt their ability in speaking. These abilities were “realization of the key points”, “number of words” and “fluency of oral expression.” Most of all, there were significant effect as to the pupils of median and low level of language ability. 2. The pupils could have more confidence about their speaking when they used the strategy of concept mapping. 3. Concept mapping was helpful for preparation of pupils’ speaking and working up the contexts. 4. As to the speaking ability by way of concept mapping strategy, there was significant effect in contexts of expositions. 5. There were utilities of assessment when the analytic method of concept mapping was used. Finally, based upon the findings of this research, there were some suggestions about teaching environments, plans for speaking disciplines, principles for concept mapping and guidance for cognition and affection. Furthermore, the researcher also discussed some suggestions for future research.
