Observable phenomena and people as the major clue for the study, try to realize the cultural features of folklore and record the marriage customs in Guanmiao area.
1. There are some changes in the marriage customs in Guanmiao area. The wedding procedure differs from different time perid. Free love replaces parents’ order as the way of marriage. Love between man and woman replaces the union of two families as the purpose of marriage. In the utensils, wealthy presents increase, and symbols of childbirth are simplified. The taboo reduces as time passing and the education is available to all.
2. In Guanmiao area, determin wedding date and worship of ancestors is inherited. Date is sacred, and worship of ancestors presents personal relationship harmony between families, haven and even supernatural. The thinking of invisible bond that makes a man and a woman husband and wife exists as before.
3. The marriage customs change because of legislation, environment, industry, culture dissemination, family structure and the expanding of intermarry area in Guanmiao area.
4. The majority of the party concerned don’t understand the cultural meaning in marriage customs. Because of ignorance, they think the custom is a trouble. In obeying tradition, the party concerned do what they are told in the ceremony. Therefore, they are our job to reduce excessive ceremony and let the party concerned know the cultural meaning of marriage customs.
