Based on the data of school files and formal and informal interviews, the school life history since 1946 was reconstructed and written in this thesis. Briefly, the profile of student numbers of Dian-Guang Elementary School reflects the phenomenon of historical change. Moreover, the school once had more than 400 since the school was founded in 1946, the next year of the recovery of Taiwan from Japanese. However, after 1964, the population of Dian-Guang community descended year by year due to the central government’s birth-control policy. In 1992, Dian-Guang Bridge was opened to vehicular traffic. As the traffic communication was convenient, some students stepped beyond the boundary to study in Guan-Shan Elementary School. In the mean time, owing to the bed job opportunity in the county, young people moved out to urban area for better hiring chance. Thus, the population continues reducing as well as the total of student’s number descending by years. The student’s number, however, appears stably after September, 2002. In conclusion, it is realized from the history of Dian-Guang Elementary School that although the school was located in a closed, outlying and inconvenient place separated by Pei-Nan stream, once was the place to arrange administrative transferors. However, the dedication of the principals and teachers as well as the supporting of the community, people conquer many difficulties and create lots of new educational moments for the school. The developmental progress of Dian-Guang Elementary School can be described in Chinese as “to cultivate land as a pioneer” or “to have calluses on the hands and feet”. Through the refinement, the growth and the qualitative change, the uniqueness of Dian-Guang has appeared. Key words: School history, History of school development, Life history.
