How those trivial, even useless things dipping in magic in the imaginary world in Picture Books? How the imaginary world refreshes those things with magic power and enchants them? As the title” See How Things Telling Stories” said, this thesis aims to figure out how Readymade Collage telling stories in Picture Books. While Readymade bringing its substantiality into Picture Books, it enters the imaginary world of story that Picture Book hold. As Readymade interfere in, distinct visual perception and hesitation are caused, the tension between different reality creates meanings. Readymade presented in pictures provides information beyond narrative texts, and tells stories with surrounding pictures. In the stories, the interfere of Readymade can make reality more real, and also can emphasize the imaginary. In between, there are enigmatic floating worlds request beholder’s verification. This thesis is consists of eight chapters. Chapter One is the Prelude of the whole stories, introduces the motivation, the goal, the range and limits of this research, and related background knowledge such as collage art and the use of collage in Picture Books. Chapter Two is the Pursuit of background theories and proper attitude of beholding behind the research. I thus applied Phenomenology attitude as a base of observing and analyzing. Step further in Chapter Three, I regarded Picture Books as an aesthetic object, and discussed the world relay on it. In Chapter Four and Chapter Five, I discuss five works of collage picture books: Snowballs, Leafbirds, Smokey Night, Cloudland and I Will Not Ever Never Eat a Tomato as experiments in beholding and description. Based on the experiments in the former chapters, Chapter Six discusses Readymade as signs in stories, and Chapter Seven discusses how the substantiality of Readymade affects the tone of stories. Chapter Eight- the Finale revises this research and proposes suggestion for the next researchs, and what stories can be played in next research.
